First game: October 28, 1901 At stake: Egg Bowl Trophy When: Thanksgiving Day Where: Scott Field, Starksville or Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, Oxford Misc.: The Egg Bowl dates back to 1927 and has been awarded to the winner of the game since. Between 1973 and 1990 the game was played in Jackson. Overall series record includes games prior to the inception of the Egg Bowl. The 2003 game was the 100th meeting between these two schools. Mississippi State's winningest coach Jackie Sherrill retired following the game. And Ole Miss QB Eli Manning completed 19-of-27 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns as Mississippi captured the "Egg Bowl" with a 31-0 rout of the Bulldogs. It was the first time the Rebels blanked the Bulldogs since a 48-0 triumph here in 1971. Mississippi leads the all-time series, 57-37-6, and is 51-20-5 since they started playing the "Battle of the Golden Egg" in 1927.
