Clemson quarterback Charlie Whitehurst tied a school record with four touchdown passes as the Tigers won, 63-17. The 2002 game was the 100th meeting between the two schools. These two teams met as members of the ACC from 1953-70. The first 57 games in the series were played in Columbia and were referred to as "Big Thursday." Until 1960, the USC-Clemson game was played during the South Carolina State Fair.
