R.J. Barrett commits to Duke

5 star small forward R.J. Barrett has committed to Duke.

The 6-7, 180 pound Barrett, a native of Canada who attended the Montverde Academy in Florida, chose Duke over Kentucky and Oregon.

He is rated the No. 1 player by ESPN and 247Sports.

Barrett played eight games on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and was a dominant performer when on the court. He averaged 28.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists, while also getting to the free throw line nearly 14 times per game.

Barrett led Canada to the gold medal at the FIBA U19 men's basketball world championships over the summer, averaging 21.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists. He went for 38 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in a win over the John Calipari-coached USA team.

He is the son of former St. John's and Canadian national team forward Rowan Barrett.
