Final Score: Northern Illinois 42, Kent State 14

Kent, OH (Sports Network) - Chandler Harnish threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns while adding 117 yards on the ground and two more scores in the snow to lead the Northern Illinois Huskies to a lopsided 42-14 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference tussle at Dix Stadium.

Harnish completed 12-of-19 pass attempts to pace NIU (6-5, 5-3 MAC) in the win, while Marcus Perez grabbed four passes for 75 yards.

Kent State signal-caller Julian Edelman threw for 126 yards and ran for 108 more to lead the Golden Flashes (3-8, 2-5) in the losing effort.

Harnish put NIU on the board early in the first period of play, hooking up with Reed Cunningham with a two-yard toss to give the Huskies a 7-0 lead.

Harnish gave the Huskies a 14-0 advantage early in the second quarter following a three-yard scamper.

The Golden Flashes found the end zone late in the frame with a five-yard Leneric Muldrow run.

A 31-yard run by Harnish midway through the third period gave the Huskies a 21-7 lead.

The Huskies made it 28-7 just minutes later with a 60-yard fumble return by Craig Rusch.

Eugene Jarvis got Kent State into the end zone once more late in the frame with a two-yard plunge.

But a 26-yard run by Chad Spann with under a minute remaining in the period extended the NIU lead to 35-14.

The Huskies added another touchdown early in the final period of play, a 17- yard strike from Harnish to Matt Simon that accounted for the final score of the contest.
