New Mexico at TCU

(Saturday, November 28th)

Final Score: (4) TCU 51, New Mexico 10

Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Andy Dalton threw four touchdowns and added another score on the ground, as fourth-ranked TCU dominated New Mexico, 51-10, to finish a perfect regular season and all but assure itself a coveted BCS berth.

The Horned Frogs (12-0, 8-0 MWC), whose No. 4 ranking in the latest BCS standings is the highest among non-BCS conference schools, also won the Mountain West Conference title outright with the lopsided victory.

"We finally did it," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said of the perfect record. "It's pretty cool for the players. I'm very excited for them and all the fans on the field."

Dalton ended with 228 yards on 15-of-24 attempts for TCU, which outgained the Lobos, 430-172, for the program's first 12-0 record in history and first unbeaten regular season since 1938.

Antoine Hicks recorded 123 yards and two scores on five grabs, while Bart Johnson also tallied two TD receptions for the victors.

Demond Dennis had the lone touchdown for New Mexico (1-11, 1-7), which stopped a 14-game losing streak last week with a win over Colorado State. Donovan Porterie ended with 162 yards on 20-of-43 throws and was intercepted four times in defeat.

"We are a long way from that team that you saw win the conference championship today," Lobos head coach Mike Locksley said. "You have to tip your hats off to Gary (Patterson) and his program. You have to give credit to TCU because they came ready to play and showed by they are conference champions."

Ross Evans missed a field goal on the Horned Frogs' first drive, but a bad snap on New Mexico's next possession resulted in a safety 5:38 into the game.

TCU punted its next two times with the ball, but Dalton's eight-yard carry reached paydirt at the 2:39 mark of the opening quarter.

Dalton then went to the air, throwing three TDs in a 2:27 span early in the second. He hit Johnson for a 17-yard score 1 1/2 minutes in, found Hicks behind the secondary for a 62-yard strike, and, following a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, hooked up with Hicks again for a 20-yard TD for a 30-0 lead.

Dennis got the Lobos on the board with 5:43 remaining in the half with a five- yard jaunt. A fumble on the kickoff led to a James Aho 31-yard field goal a little over a minute later, and it was a 30-10 game at the break.

It stayed that way throughout a quiet third quarter, but on the first play of the final stanza, Johnson caught a short slant and did the rest for a 24-yard touchdown.

Daryl Washington and Rafael Priest recorded back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns on consecutive New Mexico possessions to polish off the blowout. Washington redirected his pick 20 yards, and Priest went in from 47 yards out with 3:45 gone in the fourth.

"That is something that I'll remember for the rest of my life," Priest, a senior, said. "My last home game and I have an opportunity to take a pick for a touchdown. It was a great feeling."
