Final Score: Akron 42, Syracuse 28

Syracuse, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Jacquemain completed 20-of-26 passes for 260 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Akron Zips to a 42-28 victory over the Syracuse Orange in a non-league bout at the Carrier Dome.

Alex Allen gained 103 yards with a pair of touchdowns on the ground for the Zips (1-1), while Andre Jones pulled down seven passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns in the Akron victory.

Cameron Dantley threw three touchdown passes to lead the Orange (0-2) in the losing effort, the signal-caller completing 13-of-20 for a mere 135 yards. Curtis Brinkley ran for 143 yards and a score for Syracuse.

The Zips took a 7-0 lead early in the first period as Jacquemain found Jones for a 33-yard score.

Akron extended its advantage late in the frame to 14-0 with a 35-yard dash by Dennis Kennedy.

The Orange finally found the end zone early in the second quarter, as Dantley connected with Mike Owen for a 32-yard strike.

The Zips responded back midway through the period with a one-yard plunge from Allen to take a 21-7 lead.

A one-yard run by Brinkley late in the frame cut the Akron advantage to 21-14.

But Allen added yet another rushing touchdown with under a minute remaining in the half to make it 28-14 Zips.

Dantley and Owen hooked up once more on a four-yard completion to account for the only score of the third period.

The Orange tied the contest at 28-28 in the fourth frame as Dantley connected on a 15-yard pass to Nick Provo.

The Zips regained the lead midway through the period as Jacquemain found Jones for a 12-yard score.

Akron put the contest away with Jacquemain's third passing touchdown of the day, an 18-yard strike to Merce Poindexter that accounted for the final score of the contest.

The Zips, who scored on four of their five opportunities in the red zone, registered 478 yards of total offense.
