Final Score: (19) Penn State 45, Oregon State 14

University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Daryll Clark threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another while Evan Royster ran for three more scores to lead the No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions to a 45-14 thrashing of Oregon State.

Clark was pulled just before the end of the third quarter and finished with 215 yards on 14-of-23 passing and added 61 yards on the ground. Royster ended with 141 yards on 17 carries for the Nittany Lions (2-0).

"We were very confident going into this week. We had a great practice leading up to the game this weekend. (Head coach Joe Paterno) talked to us and showed us how serious this was," Clark said. "Oregon (State) was a team that had the potential to actually come here and steal one if we weren't too careful. I'm glad we took it serious and got the job done."

Jordan Norwood led Penn State in receiving with a career-high 116 yards along with a touchdown, while tight end Mickey Shuler caught three passes for 48 yards and score.

"You never expect to score on your first four possessions. But that is what we prepare for all week," Penn State center A.Q. Shipley said. "We expect every play and run to go the distance. We got some great looks and Royster did a great job up front and (Clark) played phenomenal. In big games like this guys will step up."

Lyle Moevao completed 25-of-41 passes for 250 yards but threw two interceptions for the Beavers (0-2). Jacquizz Rodgers accounted for all of Oregon State's offense, running for 99 yards and two touchdowns.

"I think they got us in situations where we needed to convert and we didn't convert. We missed some opportunities," Oregon State head coach Mike Riley said. "They mixed up the coverages. They had a good rush. Pressure was always applied. I just wish we could've converted some of those early third downs."

Penn State got on the board on its opening drive. Royster capped an eight- play 67-yard march to the end zone with a 15-yard touchdown run, giving the Nittany Lions a 7-0 lead.

Less than five minutes later, Clark drove Penn State down the field again, rushing for a critical 24-yard gain on 3rd-and-3 on the Beavers' 48 and finding Shuler in the end zone four plays later for a five-yard touchdown, giving PSU a 14-0 lead with 5:04 to go in the opening stanza.

After a botched punt attempt to start the second quarter, the Lions got the ball back on Oregon State's 28. They didn't waste any time, as Royster took the second play in for a 28-yard touchdown scamper just 19 seconds into the frame.

The offense kept rolling, as Royster scored his third touchdown of the day, a four-yard run with 11:11 left in the half after he had a 34-yard run and Derrick Williams had a 20-yard reception to put the Lions inside the Beavers' five-yard line.

Oregon State finally got its first points with 5:55 left in the first half. Rodgers capped an 11-play 80-yard drive with a tough 12-yard touchdown run to make it a 28-7 game.

The Nittany Lions went up 35-7 right before the half. Norwood tied O.J. McDuffie for third all-time in receptions at Penn State with 125 after an acrobatic 22-yard touchdown reception from Clark with 1:07 left in the second quarter.

Clark capped a seven-play 59-yard drive in just over three minutes with an 18- yard touchdown run to give Penn State a 42-7 lead with just under five minutes to go in the third quarter. An interception less than a minute later by Josh Hull gave the Lions the ball on the Beavers' 16, and Kevin Kelly booted a 31- yard field goal to make it 45-7.

Rodgers added his second touchdown of the game for Oregon State, a four-yard run with 10:20 left in the fourth quarter to cap a 15-play, 73-yard drive.

Game Notes

This was the first meeting between the schools...Paterno remains tied with Bobby Bowden for most FBS wins all-time with 374 after Florida State defeated Western Carolina later Saturday...Norwood's eight receptions give him 128, which is third all-time. Bobby Engram is first with 167, followed by current receiver Deon Butler with 135. Williams is fifth with 121...Nittany Lions players Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma were suspended for Saturday's game after an off-field incident earlier in the week.
