An offensive explosion by the No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs propelled them to a 13-6 victory over BYU in league action Thursday night. Every member of the batting order tallied a hit, led by three from Aaron Schultz. Matt Curry drove in four runs and tallied his sixth home run of the season. On the mound, Steven Maxwell improved to 4-0.

The Lobos open Mountain West Conference play Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the Utah Utes invading Isotopes Park. The Lobos' goal is the MWC crown and UNM coach Ray Birmingham says the road to that title has to be paved with a nasty combination of hitting and pitching. "You can't throw up nine, ten runs every game," he said. "You have to pitch. That's baseball."

Wilson Stadium. The Rebels and Dirtbags will then play again on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., with the final game of the series taking place Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Friday night's game will be the first of 10 regular-season games that will be carried live on 1400 KSHP AM, with Bob Blum and Adam Candee calling the action. Connie Alexander will call the action from Isotopes Park. Handling the color analysis will Lobo baseball alumnus Rick Ronquillo, who played from 1979-83.The Lobos have partnered with the City of Albuquerque organization Read to Me to collect books for Albuquerque children. For the second time in as many games, a ninth-inning rally fell short as the BYU baseball team dropped the opener of a two-game series at Gonzaga, 9-7.

Pitchers, Ayoso Hold Off Zags

Freshman Mark Anderson pitcher combined with Kevin Sloan and David McKnight for eight scoreless frames Tuesday as BYU held off Gonzaga, 3-2. The southpaw picked up his first victory in going five innings after the Bulldogs tied the score two-all in the first.
